Campaigning for Sexuality Minority Rights

In recent years, police harassment has sharply increased in Bangalore. Blackmail, assault and extortion of money are increasingly being used against sexuality minorities. Public recreational areas (like parks) which were some of the few spaces available for sexuality minorities have become sites of fear. Mainstream society marginalizes, stigmatizes, and encourages this violence. And our legal sanctions legitimize these human rights violations, effectively denying any legal recourse to justice for most sexuality minorities.

Sangama actively campaigns for the rights of sexuality minorities to live safe, healthy and empowered lives.

National Campaign for Sexuality Rights(NCSR) is a nation-wide campaign working for sexuality rights and the rights of sexuality minorities in India. The campaign is collective effort of groups, movements, individuals and organizations from all over India. At present NCSR has more than 50 organizations as part of its collective process. It raises issues related to sexuality minorities rights issues on different platforms from local to national and international levels (World Social Forum, Karnataka Social Forum, Bangalore Social Forum, International Womens Day, May Day, Human Rights Day, World AIDS Day, National Womens Conference etc...).

At present, the campaigns primary focus is on repealing Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which criminalizes adult consensual non-reproductive sexual practices.
